Since Spain captured our hearts in 2015, we’ve been working and saving hard to move to Spain with our two kids.
In 2020 2023, that dream is about to come true as we’ve made strides in creating a life that allows us to move to Spain. Including:
- We’ve paid off our home which we plan to rent out when we travel.
- We’ve saved enough to cover living expenses and our travel budget for a year.
- We’ve built an online business which will sustain us and allow us to invest for the future while living in Spain.
Over the next 12 months, we’ll be decluttering our possessions, finishing renovations, getting European passports for the kids (the lucky little dual-citizens that they are) and duo-lingoing ’til we pass out.
I’ve started this blog to share our journey to life in Spain. I’d love to have you if you’re interested in following along.

In 2015, my husband, 2-year-old son, and I rented a small apartment in Los Boliches near Fuengirola, Costa del Sol, for 6 months.
We enrolled the 2-year-old in preschool and set about mastering the language. Halfway through our stay, we discovered we were pregnant with baby number 2, which meant returning to New Zealand.
But Spain never left us. The weather, the ocean, the easy way of life as well as the fantastic train system and ability to travel all around Europe are huge factors pulling us towards Spanish life.
Who are we?
We are Emma, Dave, Dylan and Patrick. Emma is from New Zealand; Dave is from Ireland. Both kids are entitled to dual citizenship of Ireland and New Zealand.
We’ve travelled with our first son since he was a baby (he took his first international flight at 3 months old).
Travel has always been our favourite thing to do, so basing ourselves near the excellent airport in Malaga means we’ll be able to fly to Ireland frequently for family events and take advantage of cheap flights around Europe when they pop up.
